Go to Brownells or Midway and order a spring kit, while you have it apart you might as well swap the springs for a better trigger pull. All easy stuff with the owners manual in front of you. Ruger are simple all you need is a screwdriver to get the grips off and a paperclip or small finish nail to break dowd the mainspring. Might as well pull out the trigger group and clean and lube that also. The factory manual (available by download on Rugers website) will show you how to take out the mainspring and which way the strut should be installed. Op isn't clear if the gun was new or used but the junk is just as likely some flash or chip from the factory as anything else.Īs mentioned the piece going up inside the mainspring (strut?) could have gotten flipped backwards by someone along the line. The Rugers don't need much maintainence but there is some room down alongside some of the parts (mainspring in the grip) where sometimes some crusty piece of junk can cause some interference.
